I anticipate that since the Otalia pairing is the more "fashionable" pairing, the show will go with that.

I hate that if they do, it is going to make Frank into a clueless Doofus all over again. I guess that he will have Buzz trying not to say to him "I told you so!" I cried for Frank today when he told his father how he wanted some love in his life - how he did not want to be the two-bit cop who always gets dumped on or words to that effect, and in utter defiance gathered up his clothes to go off to the church.

I absolutely hate this SL for this reason, and there is nothing here that can make me cheer for Olivia and Natalia finding that they can be a couple, etc. Why couldn't TIIC have made Otalia a couple, with all the soul-searching etc. and all the struggles that the hitherto straight women will have finding themselves in love with each other, but without the involvement of Frank in this SL? If the show had gone down that route, I would have certainly cheered for them! Why couldn't the show have made Alan the third wheel in this Lesbian pairing? If they had, I would have cheered for Otalia.

As it is, all that the show gets from me is intense hatred for their front-burner SL.

I agree with you, Shelly. I have come to dislike Natalia The User intensely. And yes, CC is wonderful.

I just can't see why they have to say they love eachother, romantically. Olivia loves men. Natalia did too. Why can't they have a really strong friendship and not be gay about it.

I am on the same page of bewilderment as you, Guy and you, Ms M! However, Elizabeth kindly pointed out a few days ago that we are all looking at this SL through our own experiences, and either we get it or we won't.

I remember with all the pain still fresh in my heart when the first man I ever fell in love with, the man I was engaged to marry, died in a boating accident off the coast of a foreign country very far away. I remember my very best female friend who stood by me at the time and how, without her, I would not be alive today. I love her with all my heart, but it never entered either of our brains to fall into lustful romantic love with each other.

I remember the very intense pain of losing my father, and still feel it to this day, though ten years have passed. Again, this same very best female friend of mine made sure that I went on living. And again, we both are married to and in love with our own husbands still ....

So, I will never understand the Otalia phenomenon.

As far as story-telling on a Soap goes, TPTB are just going to go with this pairing, I think, because it is the 'fashionable' story to tell these days. JMO, of course.

Yes. Natalia is nothing but a psychic vampire. If Olivia discovers that she is a bisexual person, that is OK, but she deserves someone who is a better person.

As for me, I have not ever been bothered at all by this. I have absolutely no prejudice against it, and never have. I live in Austin, Tx. where this lifestyle is considered alternative but accepted. (Meaning everyone accepts it and goes on about their business. It is so common to see gay people around that no one even notes them. This could also be because I have gay friends, so maybe I see them more?)

Well, I have lived in San Francisco for over twenty years, and now I live in Los Angeles, where one has to be extremely sheltered not to have worked with and not to have been educated with people of gayness. I too have very close friends who are homosexual, some of whom are in very committed relationships and some of whom are not yet settled down (and may never settle down, just like some of my heterosexual friends).

I have no trouble accepting that women can fall in love with women and men can fall in love with men. I have no trouble accepting that one woman may fall in love with many men and also with many women, and one man may fall in love with many women and also with many men.

It is not distaste for or prejudice against same-sex love that has me set against Otalia.

This particular plot of Otalia is very contrived and has no credibility for me and that is one of the two problems I have with it. It simply does not ring any more true than did the pairing of Alan with Beth. The Alan/Beth pairing strained my credulity, but it did not matter much to me at the time since I was not watching a whole lot of GL any way at that time. Besides, they also did not have a character I care for as much as I care for Frank caught between Alan and Beth.

Frank is being crushed by Natalia's hypocrisy. Natalia is not a character that I liked all that much before, and now I dislike her intensely.

As I have said before, in all of this, Olivia is the one person who has come through as a hero for me, for trying to do the right thing while being honest with herself.

Hurray for Olivia. Poor, poor Frank. Despise for Natalia. And the story-line has no credibility for me.
