Tuesday's show |

It was beautiful, yet very sad. I loved how Alan spoke to everyone and was so happy just being there. He was so open and honest with everyone. It was
awesome when Buzz toasted Alan and called him a hero. I didn't want him to die, but I think that it added to the story. No one will ever wonder if Alan
would go back to his own ways and everyone would remember him as he was on his final day.

OH here's somebody talking about it...yes it was done beautifully and terribly sad.....I crrrried. I KNEW the minute Phillip started to walk towardhim and
the way he was sitting, I just knew... phil talked and talked,
then realized dad didn't even flinch or turn. It was extra touching filmed from behind like that, with that music!!!! BUT BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY IM STILL MAD AT THEM FOR DOING IT. i can't see it the benevolent way you do, which is VERY nice.... but I wanted to know he had changed and would GO ON as the new nicer AS. I couldnt believe they did that. LOSING THE SHOW IS HARD ENOUGH. I WANT ALL LOOSE ENDS HAPPY. I AM thankful they didnt kill off Phillip though. -garnet ![]() |

I wanted everyone to be happy at the end too. When you think about it, Alan was happy. That's not the ending that I was seeing for him. I was imagining
them going to Thanksgiving dinners at Lizzie and Bill's. Alan enjoying time with his family, not trying to manipulate them. I was picturing him acting like
a silly great-grandfather to Sarah and the kids that Lizzie and Bill will have; enjoying playing frisbee with James; spending quality time with Alex; and
Phillip and him doing more father and son things. But, it was like Alan told Phillip -- you have to grab happiness when you can.
BTW, who was the older woman that Vanessa thanked for coming to the wedding?

I am still in denial! I want them to resurrect him at the hospital! I am so mad at the writers for killing him off in the last week! What if they get the show
back on? We need Alan!
I think it will have been a heart attack so that they will not have to make Phillip feel guilty. Please do this for us!!!! This is what was spoiled for me by Tracey. She was talking about how "hard" today was going to be so I knew it was Alan that was going to get it because she is a huge RR fan. I was so upset at her for spilling the beans!!! Love her anyway! It was a beautiful show. I am praying for a miracle! They took him away in an ambulance! How touching was Beth and Phillip. Those two are so beautiful together, they are like Barbie and Ken! Wow! James is going to hate his father now that Alan has passed. He will blame Phillip for it.

I thought about James hating Phillip, but I don't think that the show will end that way. Alan giving Phillip a new life and then him dying will bring them
together.
I just realized that what I enjoyed so much about Alan's scenes today was that he was really at peace with himself. I can't remember ever seeing that before. |

He was like that after his last two heart attacks but it ended after a short while. LOL.

Yes, this was a great episode. As the bone marrow transplant was risky with no precendance I did not expect a total success rate. Ed said for Alan to go home,
not to a wedding. Alexandra explained Alan makes his own rules.
When the surgery idea came up and Alan was a match I took time to get used to it. I decided I expected Alan to die. Yes, I believe Alan was at peace with himself and whatever outcome from the surgery. RR has been fabulous the last few episodes. I'd like to think Christopher Bernau would be proud. Unfortunately, I had read TV Guide's recap before viewing the episode online. I started tearing from the recap! |

Just a quick question....I am still in shock with this, but did anyone besides me get a "Grumpy Old Men" vibe off this? Jack Lemmon, Burgess
Meridith??? Anyone?
I'm torn. I HATE that he's gone, (ALAN), but it WAS good drama. WHY may I ask was I expected to sit through months, or better yet years of bad writing when obviously SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE was capable of more. These types of events....marriages and deaths, funerals and births, adultery and teen angst are the things that daytime are made of, don't ya think. I watched todays show and wondered, "Where the hell have ya been GL?" I see it right in front of me, character interation, marriages that last past an episode or two, HISTORY being addressed, history being RESPECTED! WTF?! They did it ! Why didn't they do it sooner? I am curious about this, I have my own theories, of course, but I won't litter, lol, not now that we are hurting...........*sob* |

K....If they kill Edmund...I will forever despise all of them and check my grocery purchases............THAT WILL PISS ME OFF! Just saying. Yeah...I just had
to add this........I'm worried...it would be just like this current regiem to think THAT would be a happy ending..........

Ms Mistoffelees wrote: Considering he is the last "bad guy" I'm not sure what else provides the "happy ending". I know you are a fan of Edmund. So how would you end GL? Keep in mind that the powers to be are forcing you to write one with a happy ending for all the characters.

Keep in mind that the powers to be are forcing you to write one with a happy ending for all the characters. They are!? Ok. Sincerly, I understand. However, lol, a happy ending? I know what you are saying, but it's a soap, nowhere but in fairy tales do you get a "happily ever after". Edmund, like your Jonathon, who I love also, were brought on as "bad". Edmund, like your Jonathon was also redeemed, at one time or the other. Edmund, unlike Jonathon, was trashed again after his redemption.............for the sake of someone(character), or something else(same character storyline). Count your blessings that your character gets his "happy ending". I will NEVER forgive GL and TIIC for the writing of Edmund and bottom line, DAM. He deserved a spot in the final cast photo, impo. We can talk about it more later. Peace. |

Those were some very powerful scenes with Phillip talking to Alan there at the end of the episode.
I said to my wife "What the hey, we only have a few episodes left." "Why let him die now????"

The cast photo is for contract players only. No Edmund, Jonathan or Ed. I still don't get it Ed has not appeared in the opening sequence.
Will I at least get a mention of Justin? Phillip will need his guidance and assurance he can head the Spaulding clan. Maybe Jeffrey will hunt Edmund till kingdom come. My best guess with three episodes left. Edmund will end up in prison. |

I was thinking the same thing Ms. M and posted in another thread about it. If the writers had been writing more of this type of thing all along then the show
wouldn't have lost so many viewers. Soaps should be character driven, not storyline dictated.

Edmund, unlike Jonathon, was trashed again after his redemption.............My take is also this, exactly. I will NEVER forgive GL and TIIC for the writing of Edmund and bottom line, DAM.Nor will I. In my opinion, this phenomenon is what killed GL. The show stopped telling character-driven stories. That process started a long time ago. |

You know, when Edmund came back following his daughter's death, the writers had the perfect opportunity to redeem him. Then they had to make him act crazy
again and ruined things. What was the purpose? To give Reva a bigger story?

That would be my guess.
