For me....
I was reasonably happy with the finale, until the "One Year Later" segment started. It was crap - I was fuming as Reva and Josh drove off with Colin, Jeffery's son, and he's out chasing Edmund for her. I really wish they had left it open ended... do Reva and Josh reunite, or does Jeffery come back? The fact that the show's very last moments were Josh and Reva driving off together totally made me gag. WHERE'S JEFFERY? Complete rubbish.
Also, the partner swap (again) between Marina, Shayne, Mallet and Dinah gave me a big "ick". I think Dinah and Mallet were a million time more interesting a couple than Mallet and Marina, and although Marina and Shayne had been high school sweethearts it just seemed silly. Dinah and Shayne should have stayed together. The whole SL twist of Frank overhearing her confession, and Dinah having to run (again) was a dumb waste of time. On the bright side, the last scene between Dinah and Vanessa was fab. (Confession - I have been a Marina hater since she was recast after Aubrey Dollar left. I think it's a combination of bad writing and the new actress not working well for me for whatever reason. Marina has been a snoozefest for ages.)
I was very happy that Ed and Holly ended up together, Danny and Michelle returned. I would have loved to have seem more of Bridget and more of the "real" Dylan... (Did they ever even write the new, creepy Dylan out, or did he just kind of disappear after awhile?) I started watching GL in the early 90's. When Nadine kept pregnant Bridget in her attic is one of my all time favorite GL SL's.
Buzz and Lillian getting married was great - I think it should have been done much sooner. I think they could have served well as Springfield's sort of wise, loving older couple.
Alan dying - so sad, but so necessary. The acting in his last scenes was great. I really think Alan had to die, because with his history, I don't think he would have had the capacity not to return to his struggle with his dark side. He got to be the man he wanted to be and then die before he had a chance to eff it up. His death also allowed the show to incorporate some of the fans grief.
Phillip living - I never really thought Phillip would die. I did think it was interesting and well done the way the show had Phillip's process of accepting his death mirror the demise of the show. The scene where Phillip agreed to let Alan undergo the surgery was great. Glad Phillip and Beth reunited. Also, so nice to finally see James throw a freakin' frisbee with him!
I was very glad that Cassie did not return. I was sort of hoping that the actress who played Tammy would show up for one last Jonathan and Tammy fantasy moment.
It was cute that they wrote the actress who plays Lizzie's pregnancy into her final scenes.
Also, I am soooo glad that Jon and Sarah came back. I missed the scenes where Lizzie was reunited with Sarah because of stupid tennis - maybe I will get around to watching them on CBS at some point. I've always been a big Jonathan fan - I would take a scene with Jon and Reva over Reva and Josh any day.
Frank and Blake.... whatever. Should have been done ages ago, and done well. Anyone remember their one night stand on the diner table years ago? So sad that they wasted so much time on the internet crap, rather than scenes of them interacting and building a real love.
Cyrus being Jenna's son - crap. Also, does not a Cooper make. Cyrus and Mel - well, good for Mel I guess, since he's so good looking. Although I think the actors have chemistry, I don't think the characters do. I do like the character of Cyrus, but the writer's didn't seem to be able to find a place where he really fits in.
My favorite moment was the return of Fletcher in his fedora... how great! The scene's of Alex mourning Alan were amazing, and the scene where Fletcher and Alex embraced was so wonderful.
How about you?
