Oh Phillip, I'm so sorry. Yeah, that's real nice right before Christmas.

I'm sorry Phillip. It seems like that is always when companies lay people off. Hopefully you will find something else soon.

That's the pits Phillip. My daughter was laid off too, but has just recently found another job. Keep positive. There will be a job out there somewhere
for you.

Thanks everyone!!!!
All I know is what they told me "that my department has had an immediate reduction in staff and it affected me" -Not much of an explanation,I've really been blind sided on this one. This totally came out of left field.

A person has to have a cold stone heart to lay off people this time of year. In my personal opinion, it should be illegal. What a
rotten thing to have happen! Phillip, I am so sorry that this has happened to you! Being in a similar situation, at the moment, I can certainly sympathize!
I will pray that you are able to find something soon!

Dear Phillip, I am really sorry that this happened to you, and I wish with all my heart that you and your wife land on your feet coming through this ordeal all
over again.
Let me add this, hoping that this proves helpful. You are a software engineer, right? Things are beginning to look really bright again for the Techies. Just 15 minutes ago, a reporter on the Business channel (CNBC) reported that Cisco Systems is planning on going into a huge hiring spree... I just about fell off my boots when I heard this! And all sorts of other software jobs are opening up also. I pay attention to this particular sector because my husband is a software engineer, and he too got laid off in November 2008, and it took a year for him to find something else. Right now, things are improving in his area, but manufacturing jobs are not getting any better at all. It actually seems that a boom in the Tech sector is going to be matched by a bust in the Manufacturng sector ... at least that is what I understood from the CNBC report. Health insurance is the biggest problem for those of us who get laid off from our jobs which provided the only coverage we could get. I hope, pray and trust that you will come out of this tribulation with flying colours!

Manufacturing can't "bust" much more around here than it already has.

Exactly; that is what worries me.
I think that they are speaking in short-hand and are really saying that manufacturing jobs are not just coming back. Why would they (I mean manufacturing jobs) when we the consumers, who have been impoverished over the various factors, need the price breaks we get when we buy cheaply-manufactured goods from China (and other countries) because we are losing our own manufacturing jobs and so on - it is an absolute vicious and venomous cycle. |

Well, I wasn't in manufacturing. I was a Mainframe Console Operator for the Tennessee Processing Center handling Data Processing for the Bank of New York
Mellon. I firmly believe that with me losing my job that the CEO will get a bigger bonus!!!!

My dear Phillip, I knew you were not in manufacturing but that you were a software specialist (I thought I said that in my original response)! I just mentioned
the manufacturing sector as an aside in a generality.
Anyhow, you are right; I dare say that laying off real workers is just a way to boost the Big Boss's Bonus. This phenomenon is not what capitalism is supposed to lead to, IMO, but as a fellow sufferer, I extend to you my fullest sympathy. As a friend, I extend to you my very best wishes! |

My son was recently diagnosed with MS and was laid off yesterday. He had only been on this job for a few weeks after a long layoff from his previous job.
I pray for everybodys health and employment daily. |

my thoughts are with you phillip. i totally agree that the big honcho will get more $ as you are laid off. i believe greed is running many of the already
wealthy who are in charge of banking, and big businesses.

Sorry to hear about this Phillip. I was (and still am) in your same situation. I was laid off a year ago yesterday. Total blindside, didn't have a clue it
was coming. I'm in presales for apparel software and times are tough for the market. I don't understand why these companies do it right before the
holidays, but I'm sure it has something to do with taxes or something. I'll keep you in my prayers that you find something quickly.
