Jumping The Gun.Wednesday, September 23 2009 |
Damian saves Luke, Holden and Maeve try to escape and Damian is caught in a lie.
In Kentucky, Ebb holds a gun on Jack, Damian and Luke. He demands his money. Jack asks for proof that Holden is alive first. Ebb threatens to shoot them one at a time. When he's about to shoot Luke, Damian jumps him and the gun goes off. Damian goes down and his son runs to him. Ebb goes over the cliff and Jack calls for an EMT. Damian has been shot through the shoulder. They wonder if Holden is alive... and then why Damian is there in the first place. He begins rambling about getting a call from the local cops. He tells them that there is supposed to be evidence that Holden was drinking and driving with a woman in the truck when it crashed. He wanted to keep these allegations quiet for the family's sake. After the EMT arrives, Jack gives the cops a description of Ebb. Luke thanks his father for coming down and saving him. Damian swoons but he refuses to go to the hospital.
In Oakdale, Lily tells her mother that there is no proof that Holden is alive but she feels that he is. That's not good enough for Lucinda; she needs something concrete before she'll write a check. Lily admits that Jack thinks this could be a fraud too but went down to check it out. She knows it isn't logical but she has hope again. She tries calling Jack but he tells her that it looks like it was a hoax. Lily cries to her mother. She still doesn't feel like she's lost him. Lucinda thinks that's just because Holden is still in her heart. The topic turns to Damian and Lily asks her to back off. She refuses and tells her she needs to stop this before Damian ruins what's left of her family.
Damian and Luke return to Oakdale. He gets checked out at the hospital. Luke's impressed that he saved him and he's glad that he's okay. Damian thanks him for giving him another chance and sends him off to call his mother.
Jack returns to Lily and tells her how sorry he is. She's shocked to learn that Damian was down there. Jack tells her what he knows and that Damian was shot.
Back in the shack, Holden and Maeve wonder what is taking Ebb so long. He's afraid that he took the money and ran. She says that it's unlikely anyone will ever find them. He's amazed she'd let herself be cut off from the world like this. Maeve doesn't think opportunities exist for her. He tells her about growing up as a farmer and how he fell in love with Lily, even though they were from different worlds. That sounds like a fairytale to Maeve. He tells her they made plenty of stupid mistakes but they never stopped loving each other. She tells him that Ebb was nice once and she believed in him, but then he changed thanks to greed and frustration. While she gives up hope for survival, he insists that they need to get out now. After dragging himself off the bed, he pushes her chair over to get her free. Hitting the floor knocks her out for a minute. When she wakes up, he unties her feet and then she rushes off to find something to cut through his chains. She finds a hatchet and he knocks the chains off his feet and her hands. "Once we get back to Oakdale, I'm going to make sure you get everything you'll ever want," he promises her. "I know exactly what that is!" she says, kissing him. Suddenly, the door flies open and Ebb steps in. Holden runs at him with the hatchet but Ebb wrestles it from him and orders Maeve to tie Holden up again. They head out.
Meg sneaks into Damian's room and begins searching in his desk. Then she smells his clothes for awhile before looking in his drawers and pulling out some papers. Scanning over them, she realizes that he never had the DNA analysis done.
Meg goes to see Lucinda who tells her that the ransom was all a hoax. Meg hands her the papers she took from Damian's room and tells her that it looks like he never had the tests run. Lucinda's not surprised and decides to give the papers to Jack.
Lucinda brings the papers straight to Jack at the station and tells him that Damian was never planning to have a report done. She's sure that he wanted to keep any possible proof that Holden was alive hidden. Jack wonders if Damian was just trying to help, even though he shouldn't have misled Lily. He's more worried about how she got her hands on them, but he still offers to dig into this.
Lily hurries to the hospital to see Damian. She'll never forget that he saved their son. As she kisses him, Jack walks in. He asks about the samples he had analyzed. Damian says there was no match but he doesn't have a copy of the report because he got the results over the phone. Lily tells Jack to leave. After he does, Lily complains about Jack and Damian plays it cool. "I can't believe how close I came to losing you too," she says.
Luke and Meg talk at the farmhouse. He stands up for his parents and tells her that he just wants his mother to be happy. Although he knows she's hurting, he wants her to back off. Damian saved his life and is giving his mom solace. "Your mother is not the only one he's playing for a fool," Meg says. Luke says it took him a long time to trust Damian but he does now. They keep arguing and he tells her again to back off. She says he'll thank her for not backing off when the truth comes out.
Jack returns to Lucinda and tells her that Damian lied right to his face. The cops from Kentucky call him and say there is no trace of the guy who went over the cliff.
